Fox in the Box : An Adventure in Literacy
A Unique K-2 Assessment System
Grade Range: Kindergarten through Grade 2
Administration: Individual and some groups
Time: Fox in the Box is administered over a 2-3 week period of time.
It takes about 30 minutes per child for the one-on-one activities. It
is best administered activity-by-activity spending 5-7 minutes per child.
There are also three small group activities that take approximately
80 minutes collectively.
Fox in the Box, especially useful for identifying primary students
at risk, offers innovative tools for assessing K-2 literacy. Authentic,
engaging activities-including a friendly fox puppet-help you evaluate
a variety of literacy skills and meet each child’s individual
needs. Individual Literacy Progress Records make it easy to administer
and monitor each child’s progress over four years, and gain specific
teaching insights. Literacy skills are measured each fall and spring.
Teachers will benefit from gaining specific diagnostic information for
each child.
