the newest and latest editions of this most widely used adult
test in North America.
These newest TABE editions feature all new items, updated norms,
a new literacy level, integrated content and a new format for
Practice and Locator Tests.
Separate components measuring problem-solving and work-related
foundation skills are also available. (see TABE-WF
and TABE-PS)
Features and Benefits
-
Literacy Level
The consumable Level L Test Book contains only Reading
subtests which assess the pre-reading and beginning reading
skills of adults. It is group administered and features a variety
of multiple-choice itemstext-based, student-read and oralthat
use various stimuli and testing techniques.
The plastic-laminated Word List must be used to help
determine whether a person reads well enough to take the Locator
Test and is important to administer before doing Level L.

Transition from Forms 5 & 6 Made Easy
The transition for users making the change from TABE Forms 5
& 6 to 7 & 8 is an important issue. An equating study
was conducted in which the same examinees were administered
both Forms 5 & 7. This allowed the publishers to equate
the two forms, ensuring users continuity in data collection
and in measurement of achievement. As the subtest structure
for Forms 7 & 8 is different from that for Forms 5 &
6, it is important to note which scales have been equated to
each other. The following table clarifies the relationships.

- Five levelsL (Literacy), E (Easy), M (Medium), D
(Difficult) and A (Advanced)ensure a positive testing
experience.
- Select either Complete Battery (3 hrs.) for both norm-referenced
and objective mastery information or the Survey Test (1
hr. 30 min.) for norm-referenced with limited competency
data.
- Complete Battery is available in two parallel forms.
- GED Predictor Report is available.
- Separate Locator Tests help place the examinee in the
appropriate level.
- SCOREZE Answer Sheets make hand-scoring easy.
- Individual Diagnostic Profiles, one per level for Levels
E, M, D and A, allow the hand-scorer to note which items
were passed or failed and the implications of that performance
on competency attainment. Profiles also contain areas to
display norm-referenced information.
- TABE 7 is also available in a large print edition for
students who are visually impaired or have other handicaps.
- It is easy to score TABE 7 & 8. For hand-scoring,
examinees can record their answers either on a CompuScan
Answer Sheet, which can be scored with an acetate hand-scoring
stencil, or on a two-part SCOREZE answer sheet, which simplifies
hand-scoring by revealing answer keys sealed inside. The
CompuScan Answer Sheet is used for hand-scoring and machine-scoring
with a 48-column scanner.

that measures a wide range of problem-solving competencies in
a variety of work-related applications.
Features and Benefits
-

TABE-WF
Age Range: Adult
Level D: Approximately Grades 6.6 through 8.9
Administration: Individual or Group
Time: Approximately 2 hours
TABE Work-Related Foundation Skills (TABE-WF) is a realistic
measure of adults' foundation skills in Reading, Mathematics and
Language.
Features and Benefits
-
Testing in Familiar Contexts
TABE-WF offers a Level D which presents all questions and situations
within the context of a specific workplace environment: Health,
Trade/Technical, Business/Office and General. Consequently,
one finds more complex language skills being measured in the
Business/Office context and more application-type mathematics
in the Trade/Technical context. All forms use language and context
appropriate for adults. The General Form covers a variety of
work contexts.
The grade range for Level D is 6.6 to 8.9, but these forms measure
well above and below that range. Therefore, they can be used
effectively with high school programs, employee-training programs
and a wide variety of adult education programs.
-
Valuable Results
TABE-WF produces highly usable results including norm-referenced
scores, which are helpful for student placement and growth measurement.
The Individual Diagnostic Profile provides a detailed
view of the strengths and needs of each student and for planning
instruction. The profile sheet will indicate which competencies
were mastered, partially mastered, or not mastered. Also included
is an Interview/Interest Questionnaire for assisting
the examinee in career training.
